H*E*R*O
Tonight I was honored to spend the evening with Kathrine Switzer. Kathrine is the first female to run the Boston Marathon with numbers(meaning that she registered for the race). I drove to Akron and was fortunate enough to be in a room with about 100 women. Some were runners and some weren't...some were young and some weren't. Kathrine is 60 years young and is absolutely beautiful. I could have sat and listened to her stories for hours. It is because of her persistence the Marathon became an Olympic event for women. She fought hard for women to be treated the same as men in the sport of running. Many people felt that women were too week to run marathons, their uterus would fall out or they would lose there femininity. She knew women were strong and women could do it. In 1984, women's marathon became an event.
In Kathrine's lecture this evening she gave her tips...tips for running, tips for life...Tips to GET IN THE GAME....
- Make problems opportunities.
- Small things matter.
- Teamwork works!
- Fitness is important, health is important
- Believe in YOURSELF
- AKRON MARATHON will help you be all you can be!
